Delivering a Healthy WA
Aged and community care

Continence management and advice

The WA Continence Management and Support Scheme is co-ordinated jointly by the Department of Health, which is responsible for the clinical service, and the Disability Services Commission, which has responsibility for the product subsidy.  The two components of the Scheme are:

  1. The Continence Management and Advice Service (CMAS)

The CMAS provides community-based management and advice for people who:
    • are permanent residents of Western Australia
    • have ongoing continence conditions
    • are financially disadvantaged
    • are aged 16 years or older

    Referrals

CMAS is a statewide clinical service operated by Silver Chain (service provider). Referrals are accepted from individuals and professionals. They can be contacted on 1300 787 055 or via their website.

    Assessment

A professional continence advisor will clinically assess each eligible client. An individual Continence Management Plan will be developed.

    Complaints

The Service Provider has an internal complaint process in place for clients, their families and carers. Should complaints not be resolved by the service provider then complainants can access external complaints mechanisms, including the Health and Disability Services Complaints Office.

  2. Product Subsidy and Delivery

To access product subsidy, individuals must be assessed as eligible by CMAS Continence Advisors. CMAS approved External Continence Advisors are also able to refer eligible clients to the product subsidy scheme.

For queries regarding product subsidy and delivery of products please contact Independence Australia on 1300 788 855 or via their website.
